For thousands of years, the Chinese have been aware of the benefits of green tea and have used it medicinally. Today, in our American market, green tea is said to cure everything from arthritic conditions to high cholesterol to cancer and everything else you can imagine — except maybe loss of limbs. I’ve known people that swear by it and others that say it didn’t do anything for them at all. I swear, it is reputed to be helpful in all of the following:
weight control
cancer
rheumatoid arthritis
cardiovascular disease
impaired immune function
tooth decay
infection
food poisoning
If you decide to try it and you do not purchase it already prepared for you, you need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions as far as brewing it and the amounts you should be consuming. Of course, don’t go overboard with it either. Even green tea has caffeine. It doesn’t have as much caffeine as coffee, but if you do consume too much of it and are effected by the caffeine in coffee, you will most likely be effected by the tea.
My brother has been drinking it regularly now for about six months. He started it after finding a sample in conference bags he received at a work seminar, and drank it in the hotel room. He was told that it would help him to lose weight. He buys it already prepared and he drinks several glasses of it a day, sweetened artificially, and he has lost about fifteen pounds this year. Now, of course, he is eating properly and walking daily also, so it is not just the greet tea alone.
Green tea can be found in health food stores certainly, but you can also find it in your local grocery store and pharmacy. It can be purchased in many forms besides consumable varieties. I have seen it in mouthwash, tooth paste, body creams and deodorants. I am betting in health food stores, there are many other varieties too.
I intend to try it in the drinkable form and try to substitute it for the regular iced tea I usually drink. I almost always have a nice cold pitcher of iced tea in my refrigerator and I think I will begin to alternate between the two. I will have to be careful to not drink it late in the afternoon or evenings because caffeine does give me insomnia if consumed late in the day.
It is not really expensive and apparently really doesn’t taste like much of anything. I think with a little sweetener and perhaps a little lemon, it will go down quite nicely. It can’t hurt to try it. Wish me luck!
